What are your thoughts on the DIY A/C tune-up kits. I've seen the commercial for one recently and I'm curious to know if they are ok to use and if they actually work?

Have a '71 Challenger for your time.

I've used them on 3 different cars over the years, all with great success. They were all older cars but a success none the less. An 83 S-10 after an engine swap (the compressor was disconnected). An 86 300ZX and a 93 Lexus. Sometimes the system just needs to be charged.

They're fine. Not ideal, but they do work. Sometimes AC will just go flat over a few years with no appreciable leaks to be found.

They are all right, but it would be worth it to buy a set of real gauges to use along with them to make sure you are actually hitting your pressure marks. Also if your system has been open for a long time you should replace the dryer and pull a vacuum for at least 30 minutes to an hour so you can boil off any of the water and make sure you don't have any leaks.
